My First Camping Trip

Last weekend I took a rare days holiday from work and Martin and I scootered our way into the mountains. We went camping at a little aboriginal campsite in the middle of Taiwan (about a 2 1/2 hour drive from home). It was absolutely gorgeous there - no sounds of traffic or lights or anything Taiwanesey!!! I just enjoyed myself getting sunburnt, reading my book and swimming in the little man-made pool.

We were, unfortunately, interupted on Saturday night by a large group of Taiwanese people from Taipei - who had even brought along their kareoke equipment to really ruin the mood of the night!!! But it ended up being quite a fun evening as Martin and I were roped in to join them in learning an aboriginal dance or two, and even making wishes on sky lanterns and letting them go into the night. Very cool.

(That night, we were also visited by a rather dangerous and highly poisonous snake while we were attempting to braai our chicken... thank goodness for me Martin got too close and scared it away!)

I'm a princess in the newly blossoming field of orange flowers. The shear beauty and joy welled up and a tear rolled down my face....

This is the girly way to start a fire.

This is the manly way to start a fire!

Give me food or I'll duff you up. Word to ya motha!

My flatulence is becoming quite a danger near naked flame.

Hello geek.

This bugger jumped out of the wall aimed straight for my head. But I wrestled it to the ground and made sure it would never try that trick again.

Martin trying hard to expedite the growth of his goatee.

My eye, the pain, my eye is burning.....

What's this intrepid explorer trying to do?

My hair is flowing divinely tonight!

I'm a snail looking for some leaves to eat. Mmmmm

Martin makes a wish for success and love. What a sweetie!

The lantern has my wish to be rich and famous on it.

We swing into action and get a breath of fresh air.

The tents reproduce over night like rabbits.

These feet were made for walking and they're walk all over you....

The bridge of Doooooom.....

Me having a contemplative moment.

Martin is on a mission.

South African Wine

Last week I was out shopping for some household goodies, when I suddenly stumbled upon the wine section in our local 'Welcome' store. Can you imagine my excitement when my eyes came to rest on a good old bottle of South African red??!! I was so overwhelmed with joy that I bought it straight away and insisted on having a glass that very night. Yum yum. You just gotta love that country :)

How bad are our cheap, plastic removable-base wine glasses???

A nice juicy steak and a glass of South African wine.... yum.

Martin doesn't look too confident in my choice of wine (but what does he know - he's English!! heh heh)

Nope.... he's really not enjoying it!

But really.... a good glass of red from the Western Cape??? Can't say no to that!

One Crazy Saturday Night...

Two weeks ago, Tom, Grainne, Martin and I went out for a lovely quiet dinner at our local Italian restaurant. Little did we know then what kind of a night it would turn out to be. We ended up going back to our apartment for a bit of a party, then moved on to the Heineken bar in town and finally rounded up the night with a marathon 6 hour kareoke session. All in all, it was a goodie.

Martin surfs the net, while Grainne chats to Pete in England.

Attempting the sexy look (but its not working...).

Martin, Grainne and Tom all cuddled up on the couch.

Who spilt the wine???

Martin looks sceptical as Grainne shows him the way.

Tom and Grainne pull out the real moves.

I'm talking to Tam in England - very excited!!

What the hell is he doing????

Tom starts to take flight....

Its my turn now!

At the Heineken bar - our new 17 year old friend tries to entice Tom.

Tom resting his poor knee after some rather enthusiastic one-legged dancing.

Martin doing the arty-shot thing.

Our little KTV booth that we hired at 4 o'clock in the morning (and only left at 10am) - don't you just love the Taiwanese!!

I am amused as Martin attempts to belt out the lyrics to "Dancing Queen".

Tom and Grainne take control of the mic.

Fond Farewell to Kindergarten

Today was my last day ever at my kindy. I've decided to give myself some time off from waking up early in the morning and grumbling all the way down to my bike. I love teaching them but it does limit me in my evening entertainment during the week!! I will miss them but its probably a good thing not to be doing it anymore - I was getting far too broody for my own good!! (Dont worry, no plans to procreate yet)
